Abstract
As an important part of Confucian Studies, Mencian Studies has always received special attention from Chinese and international scholars. Therefore, in the twentieth century, academics of East Asian countries such as China, Japan and South Korea achieved many outstanding achievements in this research field. However, the development of Mencian Studies in Vietnam, which has a long Confucian tradition, in the twentieth century and its contribution to East Asian Mencius Studies are still problems that have not been noticed and studied by Vietnamese and East Asian academics. By researching, reviewing and analyzing researches in the field of Mencian Studies in Vietnam in the first half of the 20th century, especially studying thoroughly the research on Mencius by Phan Boi Chau in the book entitled The Light of Confucianism, which is the most typical case of Mencian Studies in Vietnam in the first half of the 20th century, this article preliminarily points out their characteristics, achievements and contributions to Mencian Studies in East Asia.
