Abstract
This article will look into the widespread international criticisms against China's foreign investment and assistance in critical infrastructure projects. It will further explore whether it is the original sin of “made by China” (China made as the original Sin) or the original sin made by China, that is, the problematiques created by China during the construction process as the original sin? That is, the former refers to doubts about China targeting at the critical infrastructure project undertaken by China, while the latter indicates to the poor quality or problematiques of the China made critical infrastructure project, which caused doubts. In this regard, this study takes the dam construction project as the referents and conduct a comparative study on China’s dam construction projects in Cambodia and Myanmar, both of which have enjoyed close ties with China, among all ASEAN neighbors. This article is aimed at unpacking whether the follow-up turmoil brought about by the investment project contracted by China is related to China-bashing sentiments or is it indeed problems created by China itself..
