Abstract
This paper begins with the recognition that resource circulation is a pressing issue in contemporary society and seeks to explore the philosophical reflections that Zhouyi (周易)can offer through its principles of natural circulation and its discussions on material, social, and emotional factors as components of circulation. Drawing upon the values and directions for Confucian thought articulated in the “Lapland Manifesto of Confucianism,” this study redefines the concepts of resources and circulation in Zhouyi. It further derives a philosophy of resource circulation that encourages self-reflection, a positive reinterpretation of waste and discarded resources, and broader implications for human life. Specifically, the study first examines Zhouyi’s concept of resources, encompassing physical, social-organizational, and psychological dimensions, and highlights its significance. It then investigates Zhouyi’s theories of circulation, including the processes, objectives, and the self-reflective aspects of human life necessitated by circulation. Through the philosophy of resource circulation in Zhouyi, which extends to fresh reflections on outdated civilizations and generations, this paper explores the meaning and potential of Confucian thought as a starting point for philosophical inquiry and practical application in modern society.
