Abstract
This essay studies the present research agenda of legal cultures in Taiwan and Japan. In Japan, the legal culture is one of the central themes in the Japanese academic communities of the Sociology of Law.
In contrast, in Taiwan, the relevant research has been assumed by scholars specializing in Taiwan legal history.
The author argues for the necessity of Taiwan centered study on Taiwanese legal culture, and suggests several research themes from the perspective of Taiwanese, legal history and sociology of law to further the development of the legal cultures studies as an independent academic field in Taiwan.
